When she came to The Cat House, she had an extreme upper respiratory infection, and both her eyes were infected. Gracie is a lot better now, but she lost the sight in one eye. Gracie is a survivor, and she's extremely friendly, purrs all the time, and loves to sit on your lap or beside you. Gracie is adoptable Gets along with other cats and dogs.

Lola Long hair calico, green eyes.
Lola is an older cat (about 4-5
years old), and was rescued after her owner moved away and left
her in the house. She tends to spend a lot of time on top of a
file cabinet. She's getting a little better though... very
slowly. She has 6 toes on her front paws, and the nail on the
extra toe needs clipped once every couple weeks so it doesn't
grow into the pad of her foot (this can be done with large
fingernail clippers and only takes about 1 minute!)
Lola is adoptable. She is spayed, very friendly, and likes other cats (but is petrified of dogs).

Dottie White with dark gray polka dots and bright green eyes. Since being rescued and spayed, she has gained a little weight. OK, a lot of weight. She looks like a snowball with feet.
Dottie was abandoned and found
starving and living in a garage. After 2 years, she sometimes
likes people, tolerates dogs at a distance, totally dislikes
other cats (but she's mean so they stay out of her way). Does
not acclimate well to change. Needs medication.

|
Tardy Calico short hair, yellow eyes.
Tardy only has half her tail (the
other half was removed after she went flying across the dining
room table, taking the table cloth and a very heavy vase over
the other side with her. The base of the vase came down on her
tail at an angle and almost completely severed the tail). Tardy
is crazy - she can awaken from a deep sleep, leaps straight into
the air and does this kind of Matrix thing off the walls until
she ends up hanging at the top of a door way. Does not acclimate
well to changes and friendly, but not overly affectionate most
of the time, and doesn't quite have the hang of socializing with
other cats, so she scares them!

Gabby White with black spots, long hair, green eyes.
Gabby is a lovable cat one minute,
bully the next. Very attached to Baby and Oliver.
|
![]() |
Oliver Black Tiger, long hair, sort of brownish green eyes.
Oliver was abandoned as a baby, and
found starving and flea and worm infested. He has problems with
his eyes and requires medication. He LOVES plain spaghetti and
occasionally plays the piano (no, he really plays it - sits on
the piano bench and taps out a tune, using almost the full range
of the keyboard!)

Baby White with orange markings, yellow eyes.
Found starving and flea infested. He
has been placed for adoption, but went into a deep depression
and hid under a couch for a month before the adoptive family
finally called and asked if he could return to The Cat House.
He's such an outgoing cat, we couldn't believe it, but we
witnessed it for ourselves - he'd lost weight and was a very
depressed kitty.
The moment he came "home", he quit hiding, and after a week of making us pay for having the audacity to adopt him out, he forgave us.

![]() |
Lady Bug Gray with white feet, green eyes.
Bug is a small cat, and very playful
(which translates into downright disobedient and defiant
sometimes). She was rescued as a 5 week old kitten. She's afraid
of everything, and spends a lot of time hiding.

Jane Dark calico, short hair, green eyes.
Jane is probably the most
emotionally and physically damaged of all the cats we've taken
in. She was obviously abused very severely. She was found at a
car wash, covered with bugs and starving. She was infested with
tape worm and fleas. Her tail doesn't work. She cannot "meow"
(but she can growl pretty loud). She needs medication for
arthritis.
She spent the first 6 months of her
time at The Cat House under a desk in a little 1x1 area, and would come out 2x
per day to be taken out to HER kitty pan (she was too afraid to
use the community litter pans). Then she bravely moved to a
bookshelf (behind books) for about 6 months. After a little over
a year, she warily ventured into the living room for a few
minutes. Gradually, she worked her way into that room full time.
She loves to be petted, but isn't
much of a cuddler - though lately she's been attempting it if we
sit on a chair for a while (cuddling for Jane means jumping
up on the chair and sitting next to us - but not too close).
Jane is an older cat, and does
not acclimate well to change. She spends most of her time
sitting on the arm of a chair, watching over things. Sometimes,
she even feels brave enough to follow us outside the room. Her
age and medical needs made her difficult to place for adoption.

Mattie Gray short hair, brown eyes.
Mattie was rescued from the mall,
where she lived and scavenged for food out of the Old Country
Buffet and Inner Circle Pizza trash. She was about 8 weeks old
when rescued and wilder than any cat we've ever encountered
(except her mother).
She's a sweet little girl, who purrs
whenever she's touched, but still has times when she's afraid of
people. She's adopted Bug, and Bug has adopted her, and she is
inseparable from James.
Mattie has digestive problems and
needs constant care.
|
![]() |
James Mattie's brother. Dark gray, medium hair, brown eyes. Face like an owl (looks nothing like his sister)
We caught James after Mattie, and
where she was wild and crazy, he was wild and petrified. He
quivered with fear whenever we approached (and then freaked
out). When we found him in the trap, he'd thrown up the
equivalent of a heaping tablespoon of corn (Old Country Buffet).
To this day (even on a special cat food) he still throws up a
lot of what he eats.
He actually took longer than Mattie
to tame, but he's ended up being a very loving little guy.
James is a real baby - still, even
though he's about 5 months old. James has gravitated toward Bug,
who is happy enough to cuddle with him and pretend she's his
mother, but his favorite is Mattie.
Both Mattie and James are tamed, but
both are still wild when it comes to their food. They growl and
hiss and spit, scratch and fight - even though there is enough
food that it doesn't have to be fought over. And they'll eat
anything (James still has an affection for corn and buttered
biscuits)
